moonlight drive.
I just read what may be my favourite news of the week: Johnny Depp will narrate an upcoming documentary about The Doors called “When You’re Strange”. The doc will feature hundreds of hours of footage, from The Door’s early beginnings to Jim Morrison’s death in 1971. I remember being 13 and feeling completely mesmerized by their haunting acid-rock melodies and super-sexualized, everything-in-excess persona. Needless to say, I’m very excited.
RIP Jim Morrison. Beautiful forever.

a pledge.

Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crack in everything That’s how the light gets in- Leonard Cohen, Anthem
My favourite lyrics, just for you. Simple, transcendent and wholly undeniable, these words serve as an intimate reminder to myself, to be gentle.

69 love songs.
I could dress in black and read Camus
Smoke clove cigarettes and drink vermouth
Like I was 17 that would be a scream
But I don’t want to get over you- Magnetic Fields, Don’t Want to Get Over You
Amazing, right? A three hour collection of totally bizarre, power-pop songs about love, 69 Love Songs is one of my favourite albums, maybe, ever.
On long car rides from Boston to Toronto, we would listen to this album over and over, masking dark stretches with clever commentary and off-key singing. Full of more instruments and styles than I can list, this album is at times so silly and difficult and yet, completely lovable and perfect. Kind of like real romance, right? Exactly.
During those long car rides, I would hit repeat again and again, secretly hoping that the more we listened, the longer we’d drive. We’re going to see the Magnetic Fields tonight and I. Can’t. Wait. I’m so happy that i don’t listen to this album on repeat anymore.
